This solo is part of a larger series of two mallet works for young players. We suggest this be given to a student in the first year of percussion education. Purple Panther is written to put students in musical situations that use the chromatic scale. This piece uses variations and subsets of the scale to help the performer become more comfortable moving around the keyboard.
